Steven Kitshoff Announces Retirement Due to Neck Injury

Two-time Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok prop Steven Kitshoff has been forced into early retirement following a serious neck injury. The 32-year-old, known for his dominant scrummaging and leadership, confirmed his retirement on Tuesday morning after receiving specialist medical advice.

Injury Ends a Legendary Career

Kitshoff sustained the career-ending injury while representing Western Province in the Currie Cup. Despite undergoing extensive rehabilitation, medical experts found that his neck rotation was significantly reduced, putting him at high risk of further damage if he continued playing.

The Stormers released a statement saying:
“The advice from a specialist neurosurgeon was that there would be a high risk of another injury should he continue playing.”

Aimee Kitshoff’s Heartfelt Tribute

Following the announcement, Kitshoff’s wife, Aimee, a public relations specialist, penned a moving tribute to her husband, praising his dedication, passion, and resilience throughout his career.

“My Dearest Steven, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how incredibly proud I am of everything you’ve achieved as a rugby player. Your hard work, dedication, and passion for the game have been nothing short of inspiring. Watching you grow, compete, and excel has been an absolute privilege.”

Aimee has been Kitshoff’s biggest supporter, standing by his side during his 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cup victories.
