Rockstar Games has announced the acquisition of Sydney-based development studio Video Games Deluxe, now rebranded as Rockstar Australia.
Founded in 2013 by Brendan McNamara, Video Games Deluxe has collaborated with Rockstar on projects such as the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire and upgrades to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
Background on Brendan McNamara and Team Bondi
Before establishing Video Games Deluxe, McNamara founded Team Bondi in 2003, which developed the acclaimed title L.A. Noire. However, the studio faced allegations of poor working conditions, leading to its closure in 2011.
Despite this history, McNamara’s continued collaboration with Rockstar has culminated in the recent acquisition.
Future Prospects for Rockstar Australia
While specific projects for Rockstar Australia have not been disclosed, the studio is expected to contribute to upcoming Rockstar titles, potentially including the anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6.
