The 12th edition of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, held from February 21 to 23, 2025, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), once again solidified its status as Africa’s premier contemporary art event. Drawing an impressive 25,000 visitors, including 6,500 VIPs, the fair showcased the works of 106 exhibitors from around the globe, reflecting the event’s growing international acclaim.
This year’s theme, “Play,” encouraged artists and attendees to engage in informal experimentation and embrace the joy of discovery. The fair’s layout featured three core sections—Main, Lookout, and Editions—and three curated sections: Tomorrows/Today, SOLO, and Generations. Each section offered a unique perspective on contemporary art, fostering rich dialogues between artists and audiences.
The Tomorrows/Today section, curated by Dr. Mariella Franzoni, highlighted emerging artists whose works delve into identity, socio-political commentary, and cultural exchange. This space served as a platform for forecasting future art trends, providing visitors with a glimpse into the evolving art scene.
Investec, serving as the title sponsor for the eighth consecutive year, underscored the fair’s commitment to artistic excellence and innovation. Peta Dixon, Investec’s Head of Sponsorships, remarked, “As Africa’s largest contemporary art fair, it continues to shine as a symbol of artistic excellence and innovation, bridging the gap between local creativity and international curiosity.”
Beyond the exhibitions, the fair offered a dynamic cultural program, including artist talks, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. These events provided deeper insights into the artworks and fostered connections among artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts.
The 2025 Investec Cape Town Art Fair not only celebrated the richness of African art but also positioned Cape Town as a global nexus for contemporary artistic dialogue. Attendees left with a renewed appreciation for the transformative power of art and the enduring partnerships that make such events possible.
