A team of former Space Ape Games developers has come together to launch Offroad Games, a new independent studio with a strong focus on car-themed mobile titles.
Led by CEO Geoffrey Gilles, the 10-person startup is already working on two former Space Ape projects, as well as reviving a cancelled racing title.
Bringing New Life to Racing Games
Offroad Games is taking over the live operations of:
๐ Chrome Valley Customs โ A popular car restoration and customization game.
๐ Fastlane: Road to Revenge โ An action-packed arcade shooter.
Additionally, the team is reviving Space Apeโs cancelled racer, Go Race: Super Karts, while also working on an unannounced car-focused IP.
Meet the Team
Offroad Games brings together a mix of Space Ape veterans and new talent:
-
Geoffrey Gilles (CEO) โ Former GM of Chrome Valley Customs
-
Christopher Jubb (CTO)
-
Vera Zaitceva (Lead Game Designer)
-
Hyo Chan (Lead Artist)
-
Cameron Simon (Finance Director)
With seven full-time employees and three contractors, Gilles hopes to expand the team to 15 people as Offroad scales up.
An Independent Future โ Without Supercell (For Now)
Despite its Space Ape roots, Offroad Games has not yet secured funding from Supercell, Space Apeโs parent company, or any other external investors.
๐ฌ “I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur, and there was this opportunity to still operate successful live games,” Gilles told PocketGamer.biz.
He emphasizes camaraderie, speed, and free thinking as core values of Offroad Games, aiming to build a studio culture that fosters creativity and innovation.
The Space Ape Connection
๐ Supercell increased its stake in Space Ape back in November, securing a full acquisition of the London-based studio.
๐ In January, Space Ape expanded with the launch of NextBeat, but by February 2025, the company cut 30 jobs, affecting its workforce.
With former Space Ape talent now rallying under the Offroad Games banner, the team looks set to carve out a new chapter in mobile racing games.
