🎮 Nintendo Switch 2 Patent Confirms AI-Based Upscaling in Handheld Mode

Nintendo has filed a new patent on March 13 that confirms the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will use AI-based upscaling technology to boost visual quality and performance while in Handheld Mode.

📈 The patent, first spotted by Mike Odyssey, reveals how the system will upscale visuals—taking images rendered at 540p and intelligently enhancing them to 1080p using a neural network, similar to Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR. This could result in sharper visuals and higher frame rates without draining resources like a native full-res render would.

🔁 While the patent highlights Handheld Mode, it’s still unclear whether Docked Mode will benefit from similar tech or how battery life will be impacted.

🕹️ The Switch 2 is expected to be backward compatible with most Switch titles and includes a larger screen, new Joy-Cons, and possible GameCube controller support.

📅 More details—including price, release date, and confirmed features—are set to be revealed during the April 2 Nintendo Direct.
